Jennifer Aniston says she 'probably just got canceled' for saying she's 'so over cancel culture'
"I don’t put everybody in the Harvey Weinstein basket," Aniston said.
Jennifer Aniston says she is exhausted with cancel culture, joking that she is "probably" canceled now simply because she expressed her disdain for the movement, which she says she doesn't even understand.
"I’m so over cancel culture," Aniston, 54, told The Wall Street Journal in an interview published Tuesday. "I probably just got canceled by saying that. I just don’t understand what it means. Is there no redemption? I don’t know. I don’t put everybody in the Harvey Weinstein basket."
The "Friends" star worked with Weinstein, now a convicted sex offender, on the 2005 movie "Derailed."
She is not one of the dozens of women who accused Weinstein of sexual harassment but said she did avoid being alone with the disgraced producer.
"I remember actually, he came to visit me on a movie to pitch me a movie. And I do remember consciously having a person stay in my trailer," Aniston said.
Even though she is "over cancel culture," it did not stop her from cutting off some people from her life for not being vaccinated against COVID-19. In August 2021, she said she "lost a few people" from her weekly routine who "refused or did not disclose" their vaccination status, which she said they have a "moral and professional obligation" to divulge.
For her part, Aniston has also been subject to cancel culture controversy after she appeared to "like" an Instagram post by Jamie Foxx that was called antisemitic. She denied liking that post earlier this year but has been accused of liking at least one other post before that some considered antisemitic.
