At the conclusion of his sixth World Cup, the first Mexican player to complete such a feat, Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa, will be hanging up his cleats. Ochoa, who began his career with the national team in 2006, has been a vital player for the past two decades, inspiring generations of soccer players.

“I've enjoyed each moment there. I gave it my all. I leave in peace, with my head held high and proud to have experienced this,” he stated in an interview with FIFA.

Although he made the roster, this time around, he will be more of a mentor to the young team. Mexico, who beat South Africa in their World Cup opener, will play South Korea back in their home country on Thursday at 9 P. M in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Soccer legends Argentina's Leonardo Messi and Portugal’s Christian Ronaldo also kick off their 2026 FIFA campaign in the upcoming days. Argentina is taking on Algeria on Tuesday at 9 P.M EST, and Portugal is facing the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday at 1 P.M EST.
