Mystik Dan captured the Kentucky Derby with a photo finish on Saturday night, winning America's most famous horse race at Churchill Downs on its 150th anniversary.

The horse, jockeyed by Dan Brian Hernandez Jr., faced 18-1 odds and just nosed out Forever Young and Sierra Leone at the finish line.

The finish was so close that it took several minutes before a winner could be confirmed.

“The longest few minutes of my life,” Hernandez told the AP, referring to the delay. “To see your number flash up to win the Derby, I don’t think it will sink in for a while.”

Mystik Dan will earn $3.1 million of the $5 million purse, the largest in the Derby’s storied history.
