Incoming Twitter owner Elon Musk has a message for platform employees about their new boss' expectations – be prepared  to work hard under my leadership.

"Work ethic expectations would be extreme, but much less than I demand of myself," Musk tweeted over the weekend, amid speculation about what to expect from the billionaire entrepreneur.

Twitter and Musk, the owner and CEO of SpaceX and electric car company Telsa, announced April 25 that they had agreed on Musk’s offer to buy the social media platform for $44 billion.

Musk has suggested he'll be the temporary CEO, but such plans as of this week remain unclear.

In a previous post, Musk signaled Twitter under his leadership would focus on free speech and be "super focused on hardcore software engineering, design, infosec [and] server hardware," according to the Epoch Times.

"I strongly believe that all managers in a technical area must be technically excellent," Musk also wrote. "Managers in software must write great software or it’s like being a cavalry captain who can’t ride a horse!"

On his concerns about the platform’s hard-to-discern content-moderation policy, Musk wrote: "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy. And Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated."

He also expressed interest in enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans.
