Musk says Twitter suppressed Republicans at 10x rate of Democrats before he took over
Musk renamed the platform X after he purchased it in April 2022
Elon Musk, CEO of X, formerly Twitter, said that before he took over the platform, it censured Republicans at 10 times the rate of Democrats.
During an episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience," which aired Tuesday, Musk said: "The degree to which Twitter was simply an arm of the government was not well understood by the public."
He compared the social media outlet before he took over to Pravda, the official newspaper of the Soviet Union Communist Party.
"There was basically oppression of any views that would – I would even say middle of the road, but certainly on the right," Musk also said. "Republicans were suppressed at ten times the rate of Democrats because old Twitter was fundamentally controlled by the far-left."
Since taking over Twitter last fall, Musk released information to journalists for the so-called "Twitter Files," highlighting the censorship that existed on the platform.
