Pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University early Tuesday morning took over an academic building on the New York City campus.

A large group gathered outside the Hamilton Hall before a smaller group ran inside and barricaded themselves with desks, chairs and vending machines, according to CBS News.

Video showed them using a hammer to break windows and locking the doors from the inside.

In 1968, anti-Vietnam War protesters took over Hamilton Hall, on the school's Morningside Heights campus.

The university in response issued public safety advisory urging members of the university community avoid coming to the Morningside campus on Tuesday.
