Gov. Glenn Youngkin says Virginia could be in play to go red in the 2024 election

Virginia GOP Gov. Glenn Youngkin says former President Donald Trump could potentially flip Virginia in the 2024 election.
"Let’s just begin by remembering where we were in 2020 when Joe Biden won Virginia by 10 points, and the fact that we’re having this discussion is a huge turn of events," Youngkin said during a Fox News interview.
He added that "we're here in June and there’s still a lot of water to go under the bridge, but Virginia looks like it's in play and that’s pretty exciting."
This interview happened after a poll came out that showed Biden and Trump tied in the Old Dominion State.
In the latest Roanoke College survey, Biden and Trump tied at 42% support each among likely voters, though Biden edged out Trump 40% to 38% when third party candidates were included.
Overall, Biden's approval rating in the state stood at 35%, with 61% disapproving of his performance.
Youngkin won the governor's race in 2021 and was the first GOP elected candidate in a dozen years. In 2023 Virginia Democrats won the majority in the state House and kept control of the Senate.
