Elon Musk says Twitter isn't leaving San Francisco

Elon Musk says X, formerly known as Twitter, will not move its headquarters out of San Francisco even as more companies are leaving California. 

"Many have offered rich incentives for X (fka Twitter) to move its HQ out of San Francisco. Moreover, the city is in a doom spiral with one company after another left or leaving. Therefore, they expect X will move too," X CEO Musk tweeted Saturday. "We will not. You only know who your real friends are when the chips are down."

His announcement comes as major tech companies including Meta, Lyft, Block, Salesforce, Snap, PayPal and Airbnb have moved out of San Francisco, according to The San Francisco Standard earlier this year.

"San Francisco, beautiful San Francisco, though others forsake you, we will always be your friend," Musk also wrote in his post Saturday.

His defense of the Democrat-run city comes one day after he posted a photo of X's new lit-up logo on top of the social media company's San Francisco headquarters.

Musk had toyed with the idea of creating dual headquarters in California and Texas, according to a report in December. Meanwhile, he has been cutting costs associated with the social media platform and announced plans to close the company's Seattle office last year.
