The popular smartphone app TikTok has gone dark in the U.S. but the company expressed hope they can work something out with President-elect Trump once he takes office. 

Users cannot access the app as of Saturday evening and it’s not available for download in the Apple App Store or Google Play store. 

“A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now,” read a message on the app on Saturday night. 

“We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!” the company also said. 

Trump said earlier on Saturday he would consider a 90-day extension for the China-based ByteDance,  to find a U.S.-based buyer for TikTok. A law previously passed by Congress and signed by President Biden included the deadline of Jan. 19.
