Devin Nunes says that Trump should not participate in the next debate as support continues to grow
"I think his support has increased," Nunes said.
TRUTH Social CEO and former GOP California Rep. Devin Nunes says that former President Donald Trump doesn't need to participate in the next Republican primary debate.
"I wouldn't if I was him," Nunes said on the Thursday edition of the "Just the News, No Noise" TV show , when asked if Trump should attend the next debate. "As I've said for a long time...Donald Trump is the leader of the Republican Party until he doesn't want to be the leader of the Republican Party."
Instead of going to the first GOP primary debate, Trump dropped a pre-recorded interview on social media with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
"You only have to get out into where normal people and working people are and it only takes you a few seconds to know that Donald Trump has, and will continue to have, well over half of the Republicans who support him because they support what he stands for," Nunes said. "And now I think his support has increased."
Trump's campaign announced earlier this week that it had raised more than $7.1 million since his booking at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia.
Trump surrendered himself last week after a grand jury handed up charges as part of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis's investigation into his efforts to challenge the 2020 presidential election results in the Peach State. Trump's team subsequently published his mugshot and unveiled merchandise featuring the image.
Nunes says he believes that Trump is the only candidate that can win in 2024.
"He's the one guy...who ripped off the bandage and showed everybody the corruption and how bad the corruption is in Washington, D.C.," he said. "And that's why they're so scared of Trump. And that's why they know he's probably the only one that can win."
