DNC unveils Pennsylvania ads claiming Trump threatens future of IVF treatments
The ads come out the day after Trump revealed that he would make either the federal government or insurance companies cover IVF treatments for families who could not have biological children another way.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) on Friday showcased new billboard ads in Pennsylvania that claimed former President Donald Trump threatens access to In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
The ads come out the day after Trump revealed that he would make either the federal government or insurance companies cover IVF treatments for families who could not have biological children another way.
The DNC countered that Trump has lied about his stance on the treatment, and alleged that he actually wants to ban IVF as outlined in the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025. But Trump has repeatedly tried to distance himself from the Heritage agenda.
“Donald Trump’s Project 2025 undermines reproductive care and threatens IVF,” one billboard in Johnstown read, per The Hill.
Trump is campaigning in Johnstown on Friday afternoon.
“Trump can lie about his position on IVF all he wants, but his own 2024 platform threatens to effectively ban IVF and abortion nationwide," DNC spokesperson Addy Toevs told the outlet. "Trump overturned Roe v. Wade and opened the door to the flood of threats we are now witnessing to IVF, with fetal personhood bills prevalent in 19 states and counting."
Abortion and IVF treatments have been controversial topics for Republicans this election cycle. The recent interest in legislation for IVF treatments stems from an Alabama Supreme Court ruling that frozen embryos from IVF were children.
