GOP presidential candidate booed off stage after criticizing Trump
Donald Trump is running to stay out of prison," Will Hurd said during a speech in Iowa.
Former Texas Congressman and current GOP presidential candidate Will Hurd was booed off the stage in Iowa Friday night after attacking former President Donald Trump.
The booing occurred near the end of Hurd's speech at the annual GOP Lincoln Dinner in Des Moines where he said the 45th president was only running to stay out of prison.
"One of the things we need in our elected leaders is for them to speak the truth, even if it's unpopular. Donald Trump is not running for president to make America great again. Donald Trump is not running for president to represent the people that voted for him in 2016 and 2020. Donald Trump is running to stay out of prison," Hurd said.
This caused the crowd to start booing, resulting in Hurd having to pause his speech.
"I know, I know, I know, I know, I know. Listen, I know the truth – the truth is hard," he later continued. "But if we elect Donald Trump, we are willingly giving Joe Biden four more years in the White House and America can't handle that."
The booing continued, resulting in Hurd exiting the stage after saying "God bless you and God bless America," according to Fox News.
Hurd, a former CIA officer, launched his campaign in June and as of now, has not met the fundraising and polling benchmarks needed to qualify for the first GOP primary debate scheduled for August.
