'It was inspiring': Donor with Trump during assassination attempt describes his reaction
"He cared about his friends first. He asked about his friends first. And it was inspiring to watch him," Witkoff said.
Trump donor Steve Witkoff on Monday evening recalled the former president's reaction to the second assassination attempt against him while golfing on Sunday afternoon.
"He cared about his friends first. He asked about his friends first. And it was inspiring to watch him," Witkoff said during a Monday X space with Trump and cryptocurrency figures. "Yeah, thank you for the Secret Service. I would echo what he said, right? They were incredible."
Authorities have detained and charged Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, with federal gun charges in connection with an assassination attempt against Trump. Secret Service engaged with Routh after one agent saw the barrel of a gun protruding from the bushes where he was hiding, prompting his flight.
Witkoff was golfing with Trump when the incident occurred.
"I feel blessed that I was out there because I got to see what he has to live his daily life like two assassination attempts in the last two months," Witkoff said during an X space. "He's been conspired against. He's been vilified."
"He ought to be commended for his four years of public service as a president, and I was glad I could be out there and see what it was about for them," Witkoff went on. "He was as courageous a man as I've -- as courageous a man as I've ever seen."
