The 2024 presidential campaign for Donald Trump has reportedly asked Facebook to reinstate the former president's account.

"We believe that the ban on President Trump’s account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse," the Trump campaign wrote Tuesday to Facebook parent company Meta in a letter obtained by NBC News.

Twitter has recently reinstated Trump's account, but the former president has not posted since then on the social media platform, instead preferring Truth Social.

Facebook and Twitter suspended Trump after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. He attempted to revive a lawsuit in November against Twitter over his suspension. New Twitter owner Elon Musk reinstated Trump's account days later following a poll on the social media platform.

Meta is considering allowing Trump back on the platform, the company's CEO Nick Clegg said in September.

Trump previously said he would focus on Truth Social and that he was not interested in returning to Twitter.

"Trump is probably coming back to Twitter. It’s just a question of how and when," a Republican close to Trump told NBC. "He’s been talking about it for weeks, but Trump speaks for Trump, so it’s anyone’s guess what he’ll do or say or when."
