Boebert earns top slot on Colorado GOP primary ballot
Former Colorado GOP Rep. Ken Buck had represented the Fourth District until late March, when he left Congress early.
Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert will appear in the first position on the Republican primary ballot for the Fourth Congressional District.
Boebert earned the top slot after scoring the largest amount from delegates to the district assembly, according to the Colorado Sun. She earned 41% of the delegate vote. The primary is expected to be competitive and the field also includes former state Sens. Ted Harvey and Jerry Sonnenberg, as well as state Rep. Richard Holtdorf.
Harvey placed second with 26%, but will not appear on the ballot for procedural reasons after failing to clear the 30% threshold. Sonnenberg earned 18% while Holtdorf earned 15%. Both will appear on the ballot if the Colorado Secretary of State approves the signatures they collected.
She currently represents the Third Congressional District, but is seeking election to the Fourth, in November, a district widely regarded as more solidly Republican-leaning.
Former Colorado GOP Rep. Ken Buck had represented the Fourth District until late March, when he left Congress early. He previously announced he would not seek reelection in 2024. Boebert excoriated Buck over his departure, which will force a special election to pick a replacement for the remainder of his term.
Boebert is not running in that contest and contended that Buck's departure was an effort to thwart her election to his district.
"Ken Buck’s announcement yesterday was a gift to the Uniparty. The establishment concocted a swampy backroom deal to try to rig an election I’m winning by 25 points," she said. "Forcing an unnecessary Special Election on the same day as the Primary Election will confuse voters, result in a lame duck Congressman on day one, and leave the 4th District with no representation for more than three months. The 4th District deserves better."
