Trump: 'I will protect you if your governor fails' on coronavirus

'If you have a governor that's failing, we're going to protect you,' Trump said. 'But the governors are working well with us over the last period of time.'

President Trump has seen professional relationships bloom with some governors during the coronavirus crisis, but he struck a warning tone today during a daily White House coronavirus task force briefing.

"The governors have been working hard, and we are working hard with the governors," Trump said. There's been great coordination, especially over the last little while. We give them a lot of equipment, a lot of ventilators, but a lot of equipment of all types. And I will protect you if your governor fails. If you have a governor that's failing, we're going to protect you. But the governors are working well with us over the last period of time."

In a warning sign for Joe Biden, the former vice president finished near the bottom of a survey of American voters looking at which Democratic leaders have shown leadership during the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Just the News Daily Poll with Scott Rasmussen.

Just 6% of Americans surveyed ranked Biden, the likely Democratic presidential nominee, as the top Democratic official for coronavirus leadership, compared to 30% for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, 12% for California Gov. Gavin Newsom, 9% for Biden’s main primary rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and 7% for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Karen Whitsett, a Democratic lawmaker from Detroit, is crediting President Trump for saving her life by raising hydroxychloroquine as a possible treatment for the coronavirus. While many scientists, media are cautious about hydroxychloroquine, State Rep. Whitsett embraces it after first-hand experience.

Trump said today that 1.87 million coronavirus tests have been administered in the United States. He also said that CVS drive-through sites in Georgia and Rhode Island would be using the five-minute coronavirus test developed by Abbott Labs.
