USO is helping USS Theodore Roosevelt crew during virus outbreak
The service organization is helping crew members stay connected while their ship is in Guam
As Americans face the coronavirus crisis at home, the United Service Organization is helping crew members of the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier currently in Guam after coronavirus spread through the ship, according to Fox News.
Known primarily for entertaining service members overseas on deployment, USO workers are disinfecting care packages before delivering them to the crew.
They also are working to provide free internet access for the service members.
“Connectivity is the big thing that we do,” said Navy Reserve Rear Admiral and USO Chief Operating Officer Alan Reyes, pointing out that during the coronavirus, “everyone is more disconnected than ever physically.”
Thousands of crew members have deboarded the ship due to the outbreak.
As of Saturday the Navy reported that "92% of the USS Theodore Roosevelt crewmembers have been tested for COVID-19, with 550 positive and 3,673 negative results. 3,696 Sailors have moved ashore."
