Bernie Sanders and AOC to rally for Abdul El-Sayed's Michigan Senate primary campaign in Detroit
To win the primary, El-Sayed's supporters will need to have a high turout for the election, which is where Ocasio-Cortez's and Sanders' support could help. Both are draws for progressive voters.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., will attend a Detroit rally on Saturday to support Abdul El-Sayed's Democratic primary campaign in Michigan.
El-Sayed is running against U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens for the Democratic nomination in Michigan's open U.S. Senate seat. Whoever wins the primary will be up against Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers in the general election in November.
El-Sayed has been leading polling averages, the Detroit Free Press reported, and the more centrist Democratic establishment is putting its weight behind Stevens.
To win the primary, El-Sayed's supporters will need to have a high turnout for the election, which is where Ocasio-Cortez's and Sanders' support could help. Both are draws for progressive voters.
