Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is the projected winner of South Carolina’s primary contest Saturday, according to multiple polling organizations.

The victory keeps alive the former vice president’s quest to win the party nomination, after failing to win in the first three state-nominating contests.

The win also significantly helps Biden in the delegate-gathering contest with frontrunner Sen. Bernie Sanders, ahead of Super Tuesday, in three days, when about one-third of the designated delegates needed to get the nomination are up for grabs in 14 states.

Unofficially, Sanders has 45 delegates, followed by Biden with 35 and Pete Buttigieg with 26.

The win by Biden, a moderate, on Saturday was largely on the strength of his support among African-American voters.
