Cook Political Report shifts two House races towards Republicans
The Virginia race adds pressure to Democratic candidate Eugene Vindman who is trying to defeat Republican Derrick Anderson in the state's seventh district, and the New Jersey race is between incumbent GOP Rep. Tom Kean Jr. and Democrat Sue Altman.
The nonpartisan Cook Political Report on Tuesday shifted two House races towards Republicans, with a New Jersey House race becoming "lean Republican" instead of toss up, and a Virginia race becoming a "toss up" instead of leaning Democrat.
The Virginia race adds pressure to Democratic candidate Eugene Vindman, who is trying to defeat Republican Derrick Anderson in the state's seventh district. Anderson and Vindman won their respective primaries in June, and are seeking to replace Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who is running for governor. Both men are Army veterans.
The seventh district is considered a swing district with a heavy veteran and national security population. The contest is one of the most closely-watched races in Virginia this November, because it is considered vulnerable for Republicans to flip.
New Jersey's race between first-term incumbent GOP Rep. Tom Kean Jr. and Democrat Sue Altman is proving more difficult for the Democratic Party to flip next month, since Altman has failed to gain traction in the blue state. Kean was first elected to the House during the 2022 midterms.
The Cook Political Report also shifted the Wisconsin Senate race from “lean Democrat” to “toss up,” on Tuesday. The move is considered a good sign for Republicans in the swing state who are hoping Republican candidate Eric Hovde will defeat incumbent Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin.
