South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace is projected to finish first in her state's Republican primary on Tuesday night, according to the Associated Press, placing her ahead of challenger Catherine Templeton, who received backing from former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Mace, who was one of eight Republican lawmakers who voted to oust McCarthy, was backed by former President Donald Trump, and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Mace on Tuesday secured enough votes on to advance to November's general election, and where she will take on either former International African American Museum CEO Michael Moore, or lawyer Mac Deford.  But Republicans are expected to keep the seat in November.

Templeton served as the state's former director of labor, licensing, and regulation, and ran for the Republican nomination for governor of South Carolina in 2018, but ultimately lost to Gov. Henry McMaster.
