Liz Cheney reveals she's voting for Kamala Harris in November
“As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this," Cheney said. "Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris."
Former Republican Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney on Wednesday revealed that she will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in November, over former President Donald Trump.
Cheney was one of two Republicans to sit on the Democratic-led January 6 commission, which investigated the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill in 2021. The former lawmaker has not been shy about her criticism of Trump, and even claimed Trump would try to stay in power beyond four years if allowed to return to the White House.
The Wyoming politician told Duke University students in an address that swing-state voters do not have the luxury to write in other candidates when casting their votes for president later this year. Duke is in North Carolina, which has largely swung Republican, but is still considered a battleground state.
“As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this," Cheney told the crowd, per CNN. "Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris."
Cheney vowed last year that she would do everything she could to stop Trump from becoming president again.
The former congresswoman is not the only conservative to support Harris over Trump. Former Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who served with Cheney on January 6 commission, also endorsed Harris over Trump, claiming at the Democratic Convention last month that Trump "suffocated the soul" of the GOP.
