House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that President Trump and his administration are "letting the virus have its way with our people."

Pelosi was asked Wednesday whether she plans to initiate a House investigation into the updated CDC coronavirus testing guidelines. According to the new guidelines, testing is not required for individuals exposed to the virus if they are not showing symptoms.

Pelosi said the House Energy and Commerce Committee is already looking into the issue.

"The CDC guidelines that they have put forth are scary and dangerous. It really is just very sad," Pelosi said on a conference call organized by the Biden campaign and the Democratic National Committee. "All this is being politicized and yes, we will be investigating it."

Pelosi said that the new guidelines have to be "resisted because this is, again, ignoring science and letting the virus have its way with our people."

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer agreed with Pelosi's assessment of the situation on the conference call. Citing the current death toll, Schumer said that "trying to understate those facts" will "make things worse."

Pelosi also argued that Trump is "asking his supporters" to "choose him over their children and over their families – the health and well-being of their families, especially when it comes to coming back to school."
