President Joe Biden votes early for Harris from Delaware
Biden, who has spent decades in Washington politics, is expected to return to the White House on Tuesday. He is also expected to make campaign calls this week, and deliver remarks in Pennsylvania on Friday.
President Joe Biden on Monday voted for his vice president to succeed him as the country's next leader, casting his ballot from a voting booth in Wilmington, Delaware.
The president's vote was not one he expected to make months ago, when he was running for reelection. But a bad debate performance against former President Donald Trump triggered concern over his mental fitness this summer, prompting him to drop from the race and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris.
Biden waited in line for 37 minutes, according to CNN, where he spoke with someone on the phone, pushed a women in a wheelchair, and interacted with other people in line. The president also stood near a Trump supporter in line, and another person shouted "let's go Brandon."
"I was proud to cast my ballot for Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, Lisa Rochester, and Democrats up and down the ballot with a few first-time voters," Biden posted to X after he voted. "Folks, there is too much on the line to sit this election out. If you haven’t already, make a plan to vote: http://IWillVote.com."
The president's vote comes just eight days before Election Day. Biden, who has spent decades in Washington politics, is expected to return to the White House on Tuesday. He is also expected to make campaign calls this week, and deliver remarks in Pennsylvania on Friday.
