Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will receive Secret Service protection: Mayorkas
"In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection — immediately," Trump wrote on his Truth Social account on Monday.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been approved for Secret Service protection as of Monday afternoon, after a man tried to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Saturday.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said he was ordered by President Joe Biden to give the independent presidential candidate the Secret Service protection he has requested.
"In light of this weekend's events, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection to Robert Kennedy Jr.," Mayorkas announced during a White House press briefing, per Newsweek.
It comes after Trump said on Monday that independent presidential candidate Kennedy should have Secret Service protection immediately.
"In light of what is going on in the world today, I believe it is imperative that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. receive Secret Service protection — immediately. Given the history of the Kennedy Family, this is the obvious right thing to do!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social account on Monday.
RFK Jr. has formally requested Secret Service protection numerous times. He said the Biden administration has denied each request.
