Washington Post slams Walz's claim that JD Vance does not support workers
Walz claimed earlier this week in a pro-union speech in Los Angeles that Vance is "one of four senators, four, that has never cast a vote on a pro-worker bill in his life ... A stopped clock’s right twice a day, this guy can’t get it right once, not once, for workers.”
The Washington Post on Thursday gave Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz "four Pinnochios" for his speech on Tuesday, where he claimed GOP Vice Presidential hopeful JD Vance has "never cast a vote on a pro-worker bill."
Walz claimed earlier this week in a pro-union speech in Los Angeles that Vance is "one of four senators, four, that has never cast a vote on a pro-worker bill in his life ... A stopped clock’s right twice a day, this guy can’t get it right once, not once, for workers.”
The Post, which has largely been seen as a left-leaning news publication, said that the claim was not accurate because the scorecard Walz got his information from only counted votes in 2023, after Vance was elected in 2022. It also found two "pro-worker" votes that Vance has made, and mentioned that Vance picketed with protesters during the United Auto Worker strike in Michigan.
The two pro-worker bills that Vance has supported are the "Railway Safety Act," which Vance co-sponsored in response to the toxic train derailment that occurred in his state of Ohio last year, and the "Radiation Exposure Compensation Reauthorization Act" which had the support of Uranium miners and would have extended the filing period for "claims under the 1990 Radiation Exposure Compensation Act," the outlet said.
It also slammed Walz for claiming that the "only thing [Vance and former President Donald Trump] know about working people is how to work to take advantage of them," stating that Vance clearly knows about the working class in America as detailed in his memoir "Hillbilly Elegy."
"Speaking to a union audience, Walz swung too hard for the fences," the outlet wrote. "He claimed that Vance has not voted for any 'pro-worker bills,' and his source was a union report card that covered only two bills in one year. As we have documented, Vance has voted for at least two bills that helped workers and had union support.
"On top of that, claiming that Vance knows nothing about working people, when that’s the subject of his book, is also false," it added.
