Cadillac rethinks plans to go 100% electric by 2030
Cadillac will have EVs in all segments, but the division will be offering gas-powered and hybrids, which combine aspects of electric- and gas-powered motors, beyond 2030.
Like most automakers, Cadillac is reconsidering its plans to go fully electric this decade as consumer interest fails to keep up with manufacturers' original plans.
John Roth, General Motors vice president of Global Cadillac, said at a North American presentation of the electric Cadillac Optiq that the company will continue selling gas-powered vehicles past the 2030, which the company previously stated as a target date for a complete conversion to EVs.
GM’s luxury brand will have EVs in all segments, but WardsAuto reports that Roth said the division will be offering gas-powered and hybrids, which combine aspects of electric- and gas-powered motors, beyond 2030.
“We will be offering an all-EV portfolio and let the customer be our guide. What that materializes to ... we will work through internally discussing our competitive advantage in the marketplace, and not put all our cards on the table all at once,” Roth told WardsAuto.
