Hawaii hit with 5.7 magnitude earthquake
Friday's quake appears to have centered around the Hawaii Volcanoes National Forrest on Hawaii's primary island.
The Hawaiian islands on Friday were hit with a 5.7 magnitude earthquake shortly after 10:00 a.m. local time.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) attributed the quake to "oblique reverse faulting" 23 miles below sea-level. The earthquake was originally deemed a magnitude 6.3, a categorization the USGS has since revised.
Friday's quake appears to have centered around the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii's primary island. The Associated Press pointed to the site of Mauna Loa, the world's largest active volcano.
Preceding the quake were a series of smaller disturbances, according to The Hill. County officials indicated that there was no threat of tsunami, but noted that more than 300 people had lost power.
