Grocery shoppers in the nation’ capital must now wear face masks before entering stores.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the order earlier this week, with the district projected to be one of the next coronavirus hotspots.

Bowser has said the number of infections in the district could peak as late as June or July.

Bowser, a Democrat, announced the safety measure Wednesday on Twitter. Stores in the district are also limiting the number of customers inside and making shelf aisles one-way to help with social distancing to further prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

The mayor made the announcement on the same day that a Trader Joe's grocery store in the district’s popular and heavily traveled 14th Street corridor closed after an employee tested positive for the virus.
