Kari Lake to decide on Arizona Senate run by end of year
Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is up for reelection in 2024.
Former Arizona Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake on Wednesday indicated she would make a final decision on whether to pursue a Senate bid in 2024 by the end of the year.
Appearing on NewsNation's "The Hill," Lake said "I will make that decision by the end of the year, yes... I’m seriously considering — we need a senator in Arizona who will put the people of Arizona first, who will put America first, who’s not a leftist who votes with Joe Biden 93 to 100 percent of the time, and I think Arizona’s ready for that."
Lake unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2022 against then-Democratic Secretary of State Katie Hobbs but has maintained that she in fact was the legitimate victor. She has continuously pursued legal challenges to that contest amid speculation she may pursue a Senate campaign.
Independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is up for reelection in 2024. Though originally elected as a Democrat, she has since dropped her party affiliation and become an independent. She has not announced whether she will seek a second term.
Democratic Arizona Rep. Ruben Gallego has announced his own challenge to Sinema and is the likely party nominee.
