In Michigan, Vance focuses on immigration, calls Harris 'cog in the wheel' of corrupt system
"Kamala Harris supported the reauthorization of NAFTA, which has been terrible for the state of Michigan, the state of Ohio and the state of Pennsylvania," Vance said, referencing swing states.
GOP vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance on Tuesday called Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris a "cog in the wheel" of a corrupt system and cited what he believes are failures of the Biden administration in which she is vice president.
"In some ways I feel bad for Kamala Harris," the Ohio senator said during a rally in Big Rapids, Michigan. "I'm not sure that this is a woman who knows what she actually believes. If you think about it she's just a cog in the wheel of a very corrupt system."
Vance in his speech focused on immigration, foreign policy and manufacturing under the administration.
On the issue of immigration, specifically the record number of migrants coming into the U.S. at the southern border, Vance suggested the administration has an agenda beyond a humanitarian one in helping refugees trying to escape violence and dire poverty around the world.
"They said it was compassionate, but this was a lie," Vance said.
He was also also critical of Harris' support of the reauthorization of the roughly 30-year-old North American Free Trade Act between the U.S., Canada and Mexico that establishes a free-trade zone in North America and includes the lifting of tariffs on the majority of goods produced by the signatory nations.
"NAFTA ... has been terrible for the state of Michigan, the state of Ohio and the state of Pennsylvania," Vance said, referencing swing states in which he and GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump must win to take the White House.
