Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigns, flees country
Anti-government protests have spread across the country
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally resigned from her position on Monday and fled the country to India.
An interim government will now need to be formed, according to Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman.
Hasina, 76, is reportedly being flown in a military helicopter with her sister and to India.
Reservation quotas in government jobs have sparked protests and violence. Protestors, as of last week, began calling for the ouster of Hasina, who won a fourth term in January, which was boycotted by the opposition.
According to Reuters, thousands have been injured and 250 people have been killed.
