Greece searches for hundreds feared missing after migrant boat sinks leaving 78 confirmed dead
Greece declared three days of mourning over the disaster.
Rescue workers in Greece are searching Thursday for possible survivors after a fishing boat packed with migrants capsized Wednesday, leaving at least 78 people dead and hundreds more still feared missing.
The boat traveling from Libya to Italy capsized and sunk off the southern Greek coast, and rescuers have saved 104 passengers so far, The Associated Press reported.
The survivors included mostly male migrants from Egypt, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Palestine. Eight minors were also among the survivors. Officials fear that hundreds of people may have been trapped below the fishing boat's deck, which would make it one of the worst tragedies ever recorded in the area.
Officials initially said 79 people died, but revised the death toll after counting the bodies overnight. Rescuers did not find more bodies or survivors overnight or early Thursday.
