Indonesia says submarine wreckage discovered on ocean floor, 53 crew members dead
"We received underwater pictures that are confirmed as parts of the submarine, including its rear vertical rudder, anchors, outer pressure body, embossed dive rudder and other ship parts," military chief Hadi Tjahjanto informed reporters on Sunday.
Wreckage from a missing Indonesian submarine has been located in at least three chunks deep below the surface along the ocean floor.
After the sub went missing, debris was found and the Indonesian navy had arrived at the determination that the vessel had sunk.
Now an undersea robot outfitted with cameras has documented the vessel in at least three chunks 838 meters deep along the ocean floor, Adm. Yudo Margono said, according to the Associated Press.
"We received underwater pictures that are confirmed as parts of the submarine, including its rear vertical rudder, anchors, outer pressure body, embossed dive rudder and other ship parts," military chief Hadi Tjahjanto informed reporters on Sunday, according to the AP. "With this authentic evidence, we can declare that KRI Nanggala 402 has sunk and all the crew members are dead," he noted.
