Hatchet-wielding man kills four children in daycare

A man with a hatchet reportedly killed four children and injured three others in a daycare center in Brazil on Wednesday, officials said. 

Santa Catarina state Gov. Jorginho Mello tweeted the massacre occurred in his state's city of Blumenau and that the suspect has been arrested.

The attacker scaled a wall with the hatchet to enter the Cantinho do Bom Pastor daycare, according to local media reports cited by the Associated Press. 

"There is no greater pain than that of a family that loses its children or grandchildren, even more so in an act of violence against innocent and defenseless children," Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva tweeted.
