Pier used by US military to deliver aid to Gaza will be dismantled due to security issues, weather
“I was hopeful that would be more successful," President Joe Biden said in reference to the pier.
A pier created and used by the U.S. military to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas war will be dismantled because of security issues and bad weather.
Deputy commander at U.S. Central Command, Vice Adm. Brad Cooper said that the pier had been used for what it was made for.
He referred to it as an “unprecedented operation," according to The Associated Press.
This isn't the first time the pier had had to be removed for issues such as bad weather.
Last month, Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh explained that high winds and the heavy seas caused the military to dismantle the Gaza pier.
President Joe Biden recently expressed that he was disappointed that the pier didn't work out as well as he thought it would.
“I’ve been disappointed that some of the things that I put forward have not succeeded as well — like the port we attached from Cyprus,” he said during a news conference, according to the AP. “I was hopeful that would be more successful.”
