Russian journalist arrested for allegedly justifying terrorism in Telegram posts
Kaloy Akhilgov, Kevorkova's lawyer, said she is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Nadezhda Kevorkova, a Russian journalist, was arrested on Monday and charged with justifying terrorism, deriving from two posts on her Telegram account, her lawyer said.
Russian authorities have reportedly been cracking down on critics of its war in Ukraine.
Kaloy Akhilgov, Kevorkova's lawyer, said she is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Kevorkova, who has reported for both state-funded and independent media outlets, faces up to 5 years in prison if found guilty.
According to the Associated Press, one of Kevorkova's Telegram posts "republished an article written by another journalist about the 2005 attack by Islamic militants on the city of Nalchik in southern Russia in which 139 people were killed, including 94 militants." The other was related to the Taliban but Kevorkova's lawyer did not provide detail.
