Unidentified illness in India kills one, sickens hundreds of others

The illness breakout occurred in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

At least one person has died and 200 others have been hospitalized in India as the result of an unidentified illness, according to reports Monday.

The breakout has occurred in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, the Associated Press reports.

The illness was detected Saturday evening in the ancient city of Eluru, with patients experienced such symptoms as nausea and loss of consciousness, doctors said.

The one death occurred Sunday night and is reportedly a 45-year-old man who hospitalized with symptoms similar to epilepsy and nausea, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

Water samples from region have so far reportedly shown no signs of contamination, and the patients have tested negative for COVID-19 and other viral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya or herpes, according to reports.
