'QAnon Shaman' attorney says world hasn't seen 'propaganda' like Trump's since Hitler
The "QAnon Shaman's" attorney said the Capitol Hill rioters aren't bad people but misled.
The attorney for the man known as "QAnon Shaman," charged in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol breach said the world has not seen "propaganda" like former President Trump's since Adolf Hitler.
Attorney Albert Watkins, whose client's real name is Jacob Chansley, made the comments Tuesday to Talking Points Memo. He said Chansley has Asperger’s syndrome and argued listening to Trump's rhetoric caused him to go to the capitol, in Washington, D.C.
"These aren’t bad people, they don’t have prior criminal history. F---, they were subjected to four-plus years of goddamn propaganda the likes of which the world has not seen since f------ Hitler," Watkins said.
Watkins defended his profanity-filled comment to The Hill, saying his "vulgar statement" was needed to get people's attention and compassion to his defendant, whose costume during the breach included an animal-fur hat with horns.
Congressional Democrats unsuccessfully attempted to impeach Trump for inciting an insurrection on Jan. 6. So far, more than 400 people have been charged with federal crimes resulting from the events at the Capitol on that day.
Chansley, of Arizona, and also known as Jacob Angeli, has been charged with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
