Harvey Weinstein indicted on additional sex crimes charges
Weinstein's 2020 conviction on rape and sexual assault charges was dropped by an appeals court earlier this year
Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on additional sex-crimes charges, New York prosecutors said at a hearing Thursday.
The charges come ahead of the 72-year-old Weinstein's retrial in Manhattan.
The indictment will remain under seal until Weinstein’s arraignment, which is scheduled for Sept. 18, according to the Associated Press.
Weinstein's 2020 conviction on rape and sexual assault charges was overturned by an appeals court earlier this year. And prosecutors had since been trying to retry him.
Weinstein has since been behind bars in New York's Riker's Island jail. However, he was taken Monday to a New York for emergency heart surgery and remaisn there.
The 72-year-old co-founder of the film and television production company Miramax has long maintained that any sexual activity was consensual, the wire service also reports.
