Arizona GOP Rep. Biggs says FBI allegations of attempts to infiltrate Catholic Church are 'shocking'
Congressman Andy Biggs called for a major deep cleaning of the FBI
Arizona GOP Rep. Andy Biggs says FBI allegations of attempting to develop undercover sources to infiltrate Catholic Church parishes are "shocking."
"I didn't think I could still be shocked after having been in Congress for a while," Biggs said on the John Solomon Reports podcast. "This was one of the most shocking things that I've seen."
House Republicans announced earlier this week new allegations that the FBI has been trying to develop undercover sources inside Catholic Church parishes throughout the U.S. in search of radical elements within the religious faith. This comes just months after a recent FBI memo depicted Catholics as "violent extremists."
"What is their purpose?" Biggs asked. "Do they think that if you are an Orthodox-believing and practicing Catholic, somehow that's anti-American?"
He also said the alleged spying is just another example of why the FBI needs to be given less power and be cleaned out.
"You've got to do a wholesale cleaning out of the FBI," Biggs said. "And this is such disturbing news because we don't know what the full extent is. But we do know that the DOJ and the FBI were spying for instance on parents and school boards too."
"Why is it that they are focusing so much time on the religious and on those who have a real sincere interest in preserving their children's education?"
