Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., said on that Florida won't comply with the Surgeon General Vivek Murthy's public health advisory on gun violence, describing it as an unconstitutional power-grab.

"During COVID, unelected bureaucrats used 'public health' as a pretext to deprive citizens of their rights– and I signed legislation to protect Floridians from government overreach," said DeSantis in a post on X published on Wednesday.

"Now, Biden’s Surgeon General is attempting to violate the Second Amendment through the 'public health' bureaucracy. We will not comply. Florida will always reject the Biden Administration’s unconstitutional power-grabs," he added.

Murthy declared gun violence a public health crisis this week. He released an advisory that "outlines the consequences of firearm violence for our physical and mental health and includes prevention strategies to address this public health crisis."
