President Joe Biden said that late son Beau Biden, an Army veteran who died in 2015 from brain cancer, died in Iraq.

During an event Wednesday designating Colorado's Camp Hale as a national monument, Biden turned from speaking about impressive feats of American soldiers during World War II to discuss his late son.

"Just imagine – and I mean this sincerely. I say this as a father of a man who won the Bronze Star, the Conspicuous Service Medal, and lost his life in Iraq," Biden said.

Beau Biden died in Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, at the age of 46. President Biden has previously connected his son's cancer to burn pit smoke he may have been exposed to while serving in Iraq from 2008-2009.
