Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes released records needed to determine voter eligibility following challenges to his claim that the federal government had not provided updated felony reports.

Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap had told The Center Square he was concerned that felons might cast votes in the upcoming election.

Fontes told ABC 15 that the Department of Justice hadn't provided the updated reports, but Heap publicly contested what Fontes was telling the county about why the records were missing.

Fontes accused Heap of engaging in a "purely political stunt," AZ Free News reported, but Heap contacted the DOJ directly.

Heap said that after putting pressure on Fontes, the records "suddenly appeared."

“Our pressure delivered results for all 15 counties. Now Recorders across the state must tackle his backlog just days before early voting begins," Heap told AZ Free News.
