Andrew Tate and brother detained again in Romania and given UK arrest warrant, spokesperson says

Online influencer Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan Tate, were detained in Romania and given a U.K. arrest warrant, their spokesperson said Tuesday.

The Tate brothers were detained for 24 hours starting Monday evening on claims of sexual aggression connected to a U.K. case from 2012-2015, spokesperson Mateea Petrescu said, according to The Associated Press.

The Tate brothers appeared before the Bucharest Court of Appeal on Tuesday as it is set to make a "pivotal decision" on whether to execute the British warrants, which could start an extradition process, the spokesperson said.

Both Tate brothers have denied all allegations against them, including charges of human trafficking, rape and organized crime that Romanian officials brought against them in June 2023.

Their detainment comes after the brothers were on house arrest from December 2022 to April 2023 while Romanian officials investigated criminal allegations against them.

Four women told the U.K. authorities that Andrew Tate was allegedly responsible for sexual violence and physical abuse, but the Crown Prosecution Service declined to prosecute the influencer. The women then started crowdfunding for a civil case against him.

It was not immediately known what allegations Tristan Tate faces in the U.K.

McCue Jury & Partners, the law firm representing the U.K. women, said Tuesday that it could not comment on ongoing investigations, but that it received information last week indicating that Tate was planning on fleeing Romania. The law firm brought the issue to the attention of British police and urged officials to seek a warrant for Tate to be arrested in Romania and extradited to the U.K.

The women's attorney, Matthew Jury, said the news of the brothers' detention is "very welcome" and that Andrew Tate has been spreading "disinformation about the allegations of criminality he faces" that furthers "his toxic influence ... amongst vulnerable young men and boys."

The Romanian case is still in its preliminary stages and no trial date has been set.
