Kareem Abdul-Jabbar hospitalized with broken hip after fall at concert

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA Hall of Fame basketball player, was hospitalized Friday night in Los Angeles after falling and breaking his hip while attending a concert.

The injury was confirmed in a statement Saturday afternoon on the living legend's X account by Deborah Morales, Abdul-Jabbar’s rep, according to Deadline.

“Last night, while attending a concert, Kareem had an accidental fall and broke his hip,” she said. “He will have surgery today. We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now.”

In addition to his Hall of Fame status, Jabbar, age 76, was the all-time NBA scoring leader until he was surpassed by LeBron James earlier this year during a game that he attended.

Jabbar, who stands at 7 feet, 2 inches tall, won six NBA titles, including five as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Since he retired from playing basketball in 1989, he has been a political activist and a writer, having written 15 books. Regarding his health, he has battled prostate cancer, leukemia and had heart bypass surgery.
