Consumer prices in December increased slightly compared to prior month

The country's targeted annual inflation rate is 2%.

The U.S. consumer price index increased 0.1% in November, compared to the previous month and was up 3.1% from a year ago, the Labor Department reported Tuesday.

The numbers essentially match Wall Street predictions of no monthly increase and a yearly rate of 3.1%.

The country's targeted annual inflation rate is 2%.
