Glacier National Park reports 3 deaths among climbers this week

Officials with the National Parks Service reported this week the deaths of three individuals within the popular Glacier National Park, with the fatalities occurring on two separate mountain climbs. 

A Tuesday press release from the NPS said that a 79-year-old Florida man died after a fall on the park's Rising Wolf Mountain. 

"On Monday morning, a 79-year-old male from Florida fell to his death while attempting to ascend a steep off-trail slope with a group of friends," the release said, adding that the tragedy "occurred several hundred feet above the Two Medicine Campground on Rising Wolf Mountain."

In a separate press release on the same day, officials said two 67-year-old men—both of them known to park staff "personally"—were reported missing on July 24 after scaling Dusty Star Mountain. The bodies were discovered the next day, on July 25.

The NPS said the latter two climbers were " long-time members" of the Glacier Mountaineering Society who "contributed greatly" to it "and were well-known in the Flathead Valley community."
