Trump slams Democrats for celebrating flags flying at half-staff during inauguration
President Joe Biden ordered all U.S. flags at the White House and public buildings be flown at half-mast for 30 days, which will overlap with the inauguration on January 20. The order is traditional for the death of a president.
President-elect Donald Trump on Friday blasted Democrats who are celebrating the fact that all Americans flags in Washington, D.C., will fly at half-staff during his upcoming inauguration in honor of the late-President Jimmy Carter.
President Joe Biden ordered all U.S. flags at the White House and public buildings be flown at half-staff for 30 days, which will overlap with the inauguration on January 20. The order is traditional for the death of a president, but it would be the first time that flags have flown at half-staff during a presidential inauguration. Carter died on Sunday.
Trump, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, accused Democrats of not actually loving the United States, and claimed "no American can be happy" about the flags flying at half-staff.
"The Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at 'half mast' during my Inauguration," Trump wrote in the post. "They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves ... Nobody wants to see this, and no American can be happy about it."
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Friday told Politico that the president will not be reconsidering the order for the inauguration.
