New York City to shut down subways between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. for cleaning during pandemic
Ridership has plummeted 92% since the beginning of the outbreak
The MTA has announced it will shut down the New York City Subway between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. every day for cleaning during the pandemic.
Ridership has fallen 92% during the coronavirus outbreak. Still, there are some reports that imply popular subway routes for essential workers are acting as carrier lines for the virus, and spreading the illness throughout the communities directly off of those lines, which often are in underserved, less affluent areas of the city.
